Free Patriotic Movement leader Michel Aoun called for the creation of a "planning ministry....to put an end to the misuse of public funds in some of the administrations."

After the Change and Reform bloc's weekly meeting on Monday, Aoun said that "We don't want institutions that enjoy immunity, and we don't know how the funds are spent."

"We agree on lowering the legal age for voting," Aoun said, adding with regard to the elections, "We hear rumors that the elections may not take place because of the deteriorating security situation... it seems there are certain parties which have begun casting doubts on the elections."
However, Aoun insisted that "no one is considering resorting to violence to solve political differences."

"I don't think the other parties want the national dialogue to succeed," Aoun continued. On the dispute surrounding participation at the dialogue, Aoun said, "I demanded decreasing the number of participants in the national dialogue, but they rejected this proposal, so on the contrary, I think that broadening participation will fix the imbalance...There is a misrepresentation of political parties in the national dialogue."

Aoun said that "the March 14 alliance is divided, and if I talked about this issue they will unite against me so I won't discuss this issue."

"Every person has the right to run in the elections, and whether he wants to maintain his neutrality or not, we welcome him in the democratic competition," Aoun said, adding that he was not "aware of any differences with Speaker Nabih Berri regarding a Shiite seat in Jubeil."

Asked about the next American president Aoun said, "The past US policies were wrong and tragic and its normal that the new president would want to review these policies and this issue relieves us...Peace can't be reached in the Middle East without granting the Palestinians their right to return to their land....Our disagreement with US policies continues long as the US supports Israel."

Aoun said he would visit Syria "to get to know the Syrians and allow them to know me. Times have changed, and it's good to meet them, especially since they know all the Lebanese parties except me."
