Hizbullah official: Division in Lebanon a result of American interference
6-11-2008
Hizbullah official Sheikh Hassan Izzeddine said that division within Lebanon was the result of American interference. "In the end, we were able to overcome political division, which some tried to exploit as a sectarian or confessional slogan," Izzeddine said.
In a joint Hizbullah-Amal in Mosseitbeh on Thursday, Izzeddine said that the point of the national dialogue was not to disarm Hizbullah but to discuss ways for the state to benefit from its weapon and build a strong and just country.
"Hizbullah supports dialogue and understanding and would work toward further reconciliation of the kind which we pioneered," he said, "We always concede a lot to reach understanding and true national consensus as well as real national partnership which means participating in political decision just like others."
Izzeddine described the current political atmosphere as positive, with diminishing confessional, sectarian and political tensions. To that end, he said, the meeting between Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Future Movement leader MP Saad contributed. He said that reconciliation was intended to lead toward a peaceful atmosphere that preserved security and stability and made peaceful democratic completion possible. "We will not dump our political alliances with our allies and partners with whom we agree on programs and goals to build the nation," he said.
