Lebanese former MP Nasser Qandil asserted that the Syrian security authorities have data and confessions that go too far beyond all what has been aired on the Syrian TV.
Speaking to Al-Manar, Qandil stressed that the Lebanese-Syrian cooperation would absolutely unveil the truth behind all the terrorist networks.
The former MP commented on the various claims that the confessions aired last week by the Syrian State Television were fabricated rather than true. "If this is true, then we have the right to ask who's at the origin of the whole process. Who actually opened the door for such violations?" Qandil said.
He recalled that the so-called March 14 forces were the ones who fabricated the false witnesses from Mohammad Zuheir Siddiq and Houssam Houssam. "They now say that Houssam is used by the Syrians. Even if this is true, Houssam remains a product of the March 14 bloc," Qandil stressed.
The former MP noticed that the confessions led to the detention of many suspects in the North and other areas. "Is it a coincidence that the confessions are aired and those are detained within a delay of only 48 hours?" Qandil wondered, noting that "unlike the same forces that used to accuse Syria politically since years, Syria has not adopted any of the accusations stated by the detained Fatah al-Islam members."
Qandil also renewed Syria's commitment to cooperate with the International Independent Investigation Committee (IIIC) over the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafic Hariri. "If the committee finds that it needs to question any of the detained people in Syria, then Damascus would facilitate the mission. But if the international tribunal would seek to take the place of the Syrian justice, then this would not be possible," Qandil explained.
