Targeting Michel Aoun and attacking his political choices became the hobby, if not the job, of a major group in the Lebanese politics club, mainly of those who claim to raise the slogan of "sovereignty, independence and freedom."
Indeed, since the 'General' signed the famous understanding with Hizbullah and declared support for the Resistance that was reflected during the July war, he became a target of fierce assaults from here and there.
Thus, any action the head of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc performs transforms into a subject of another quarrel with those same people who, it seems, cannot spend a day or deliver a speech without assailing the General, even during the reconciliations' season where calm is supposed to reign. It's in this climate that Aoun's blueprint for a defensive strategy was rejected only minutes after he submitted it and before anyone understood its concept just like his visit to the Islamic Republic in Iran was rejected by the same people before it started and before Lebanese could perceive its outcomes.
On Thursday, the head of the Reform and Change parliamentary bloc MP Michel Aoun spoke to Al-Manar in an exclusive interview in which he tackled various issues, starting with his upcoming visit to Syria, the organized campaigns against his party, the national dialogue, and, of course, the defense strategy from where the interview started.
SOME PEOPLE IN LEBANON IGNORE CONCEPT OF DIALOGUE!
Aoun affirmed that he was so comfortable and relaxed with the blueprint he submitted for the country's defense strategy in the framework of the national dialogue. However, he decried the way some sides quickly rejected it, saying that their way of dealing with the issue was a "shame."
The Lebanese MP challenged those who quickly assailed his strategy of submitting their own one if they have. He expressed belief that engaging in dialogue with some political sides was useless, accusing them of completely ignoring the meaning of the word "dialogue."
He said that the fate of this band of Lebanese would be disgrace and dishonor, asking them about their achievements in the domain of protecting the country.
Aoun expressed happiness for submitting a written blueprint although the national dialogue table seems to transform into a table of everything except dialogue. "Let them deal with my paper as they wish, it will persist and would be read by experts as well as the coming generations and they are the ones who will have the verdict," Aoun said. "What would their reaction when the public opinion judge that they didn't assume their responsibilities in handling such a national and sensitive topic?" he wondered.
CAMPAIGN AGAINST MINISTER BAROUD SIGN OF FAILURE
Meanwhile, the 'General,' who ended some weeks ago a "historic" visit to Iran, is set to pay another "historic" visit, this time to Syria for the first time. In this context, Aoun told Al-Manar that his visit will occur very soon.
Commenting on the violent campaign the Lebanese Interior Minister Ziad Baroud was subject to following his short visit to Damascus on Monday, Aoun pointed out that this campaign was another sign of bankruptcy and failure of the ruling bloc in Lebanon.
Meanwhile, Aoun found a link between the campaign against the young minister and his forthcoming visit, saying that this campaign was an introduction. "They perceived they have failed and fallen, and this feeling increased their tendency for verbal and political violence."
However, Aoun didn't feel dissatisfied with this conclusion. "Those are the foretokens of the end of the failure reign," he emphasized.
Answering a question about his visit's role pertaining to the file of missing Lebanese, Aoun stressed that he seeks to accomplish through his visit what's more important than all the "narrow vestibules" some were living in. "The precaution that prevents the fire is more important than extinguishing the fire afterwards," he said.
ORGANIZED CAMPAIGN WOULD CONTINUE UNTIL 2009 ELECTIONS!
Aoun also denounced the "daily" accusations for himself as well as Hizbullah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah of seeking to impose their own choices in Lebanon, finding them ridiculous. He noted that they usually raise issues for discussion and do not impose them. "We were and will always be against the monopolization policy the others are adopting," he noted.
He emphasized that, in contrast, Future Movement MP Saad Hariri goes to Russia and requests buying military tanks without any official means that allow him of doing so.
And to end, the 'General,' who always reiterates his firm belief and conviction that the national opposition would emerge victorious out of the 2009 parliamentary elections, said he expects the organized campaign against his person would persist and, even, rise as long as the elections become more close.
He expressed deep regret that some political sides were seeking to enlarge and inflate their "size" (in terms of representation) through attacking others.
