Marada leader and former Minister Suleiman Franjieh said that the unity and solidarity of the opposition was crucial, and that if both remained as they were at present, the opposition would not only win the student and syndicate elections, but the 2009 parliamentary elections as well. "Change is coming, and the opposition is united over a shared political vision for Lebanon and has common strategic goals," he said, "it does not only meet in electoral or temporary goals."
Franjieh praised students aligned with the opposition who were elected at Notre Dame University in the North, and thanked "all the allies who cooperated with us and without whom we wouldn't have won."
"When any group of us wins, we all win, and when any group loses we all lose," he said, adding that In the coming parliamentary elections "the other faction might present slogans that scare some of our supporters and they will be able to break through here or there, but the opposition is strong everywhere in Lebanon."
"They are trying to accuse us of treachery through illusionary battles," Franjieh continued, "You witnessed this at the university...I call on you as students to remain united and let us put disputes aside. We are all brothers and are united to win. We should dump what is superficial and hold on the principles."
