Lebanese President Michel Suleiman continues his worldwide tour, raising Lebanon's voice in world capitals and discussing bilateral relations as well as the Lebanese cause with world leaders.
On November 24, the Lebanese President is set to pay an official visit to the Islamic Republic in Iran where he's set to hold important meetings with Iranian officials.
The upcoming visit was confirmed on Monday by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Hassan Ghashghavi who told reporters the Lebanese President will visit Iran on November 24, without giving further details.
"On Azar 4, Michel Suleiman is due to make a trip to Iran," Ghashghavi said, referring to November 24 on the Iranian calendar. In Beirut, the presidency confirmed that the visit will take place on November 24 and 25
Suleiman, who's the first Lebanese president to visit eleven states in five months since taking office, said Monday that his visits abroad aim at re-establishing the role of Lebanon in the world, which would have positive repercussions in politics and the economy.
He noted that the officials he met with abroad, as well as Lebanese expatriates, had supported the reactivation of state institutions to their fullest. Speaking on behalf of all the Lebanese, the president said he had conveyed Lebanese pride in their nation and state.
Meanwhile, Lebanon also welcomes world officials and leaders who often visit Lebanon and express support for its people. In this context, British Foreign Minister David Miliband is to visit Lebanon Tuesday for talks with President Suleiman, Prime Minister Fouad Saniora and Speaker Nabih Berri.
Last week, Miliband hailed the establishment of Lebanese-Syrian diplomatic ties and the tightening of Syria's borders with Iraq, as he announced his visit to the region. "There has been an important change in the approach of the Syrian government," said Miliband at a press conference Wednesday, stressing on "the historic decision to exchange ambassadors with Lebanon."
