Sheikh Qassem: Let the Elections Decide
18-11-2008
During a political gathering in Ghbeyri on Tuesday, Hizbullah Deputy Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem said that there were four important trends occurring in the current period. Qassem also called for all parties to allow the elections to define the people's will.
Firstly, he said, there was no indication that the Doha Agreement would be obstructed despite the media, political, and electoral "bickering" that occurred from time to time, because "regional and international situations are in a coma, and the domestic situation in Lebanon has reached a point where factions are unable to implement changes and they are all waiting for the upcoming parliamentary elections."
Qassem said that the second aspect related to the revelation of "Israeli" and terrorist networks as a result of political calm, which allowed attention to shift from domestic political problems to threats.
He stated that the third factor was in regard to the recent syndicate and student elections, which he said did not indicate the results of the upcoming parliamentary elections, because they were limited to certain places and had specific characteristics.
Qassem said that the fourth trend suggested that Lebanon's strength had became an important factor in confronting "Israeli" attacks and threats, which he said demonstrated the need to uphold Lebanon's army, population, and Resistance as well as preventing foreign interference and the exploitation of Lebanon.
