Berri calls for Syrian-Saudi rapprochement

Speaking from Kuwait, Speaker Nabih Berri emphasized the need for a Syrian-Saudi rapprochement and said he hoped Kuwaiti Prince Subah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Subah would play role in this process.
He also called for an urgent Arab Summit to be held after the "financial tsunami" in order to reactivate the Arab Common Market. He affirmed that Lebanon was not affected by the world financial crisis.
He thanked the Kuwaiti King for his country's support of Lebanon and the latter affirmed that Kuwait would never abandon Lebanon.
Kuwaiti Parliament Speaker Jassem al-Kharafi, who attended the meeting, praised Berri's efforts to preserve unity among Arabs and the "Resistance's victory in the July War."
Berri said that the meeting included a discussion of the political situation in Arab countries and the necessity of improving the situation, especially given regional and international events.
Berri met with members of the Lebanese community in Kuwait during a dinner on Monday night, which was also attended by Kuwaiti officials. Berri said that the situation in Lebanon would improve and hoped that the relations among Arab countries would be based on a shared confidence, in order to support Lebanon and Palestine.
He added that Lebanese parties were committed to forging reconciliations in order to supplement the defense strategy discussions during the roundtable dialogue. He called on all parties to support the Doha Agreement and the Taef Accord during the parliamentary elections.
Berri also called for all parties to be committed to resistance against "Israeli" challenges, according to the recommendations of Imam Moussa al-Sadr.
