Islamic Action Front leader Sheikh Fathi Yakan Thursday called on the Lebanese opposition to crown its "remarkable success" in an "unprecedented historic victory over the "Israeli" enemy in July 2006" and in torpedoing the "American-Zionist" Middle East project by winning an overwhelming majority in the Lebanese parliamentary elections of 2009.
"It is not enough that opposition forces win some seats in this district or that. What is required is that it be represented in all constituencies, and in all communities and sects, and across the Lebanese spectrum," Yakan said after meeting with Sunni leaders of the Lebanese opposition.
Yakan said he foresaw a heated electoral battle in 2009. "If the opposition wants to take Lebanon away from political feudalism and farm rule, it should draft a civilized political project under the title of the cancellation of political sectarianism," he concluded.
