Hizbullah MP slams US-Iraq pact

A member of Hizbullah's bloc in Lebanese Parliament has condemned the security deal between Iraq and the United States, calling it illegal.

The Lebanese MP Hassan Hobballah said on Tuesday that any deal with United States is illegal, stressing that the controversial Iraq-US security pact infringes on Iraq and its nation's sovereignty. The lawmaker added that the proposed pact was against Iraqi national interests and it would prolong the presence of the occupiers in Iraq.

He maintained that Iraq's problems are caused by the US occupation of the oil-rich country.
Iraqi Parliament is expected to vote on the security pact on Wednesday. But the agreement, which would allow the US to stay in the country until the end of 2011, has met with fierce opposition from many Iraqi lawmakers and politicians.
